Bath Cricket Club has released new images of how its proposed new facilities will look.

Developers Gilltown Ltd, in agreement with Bath Cricket Club, have submitted a planning application to Bath and North East Somerset Council for a new indoor cricket school at the Club’s home ground on North Parade. The scheme will include a state-of-the-art two lane cricket school and brand new gym providing better facilities for members and the wider community.

To facilitate the much-needed upgrades the development scheme will also include Purpose Built Student Accommodation (PBSA) for 142 beds for second and third year students and postgraduates, reducing the demand for private rented housing in the city.

The scheme is being developed in partnership with the University of Bath who will use the accommodation to house their students when it is completed.

Developers Gilltown have considered all options for the site, but due to its positioning within a flood zone PBSA is the only viable option for development. The PBSA will be staffed 24-hours a day and a flood evacuation plan would be put in place, with staff trained as flood wardens. In the event of flooding the building would be safely evacuated and emergency accommodation provided by the University.

The public car park will also be retained as part of the scheme but will be resurfaced and will have enhanced CCTV installed, as well as a new pedestrian access. There will be no allocated parking spaces for students who will be banned from bringing cars to the city through their tenancy agreement.

The latest images illustrate how the new development will be viewed from North Parade and the Cricket Club House, showing how existing landscaping and trees, which will be kept as part of the development, will screen most of the car parking and buildings at street level.

Matt Hankins, Chairman for Bath Cricket Club, said “Our plans represent a really unusual and exciting opportunity for development. It is a three-way partnership between the Cricket Club, Gilltown Ltd and University of Bath. Each partner is critical to the success of the development.

“We have confidence that this is the best way to protect the future of the club and enable us to continue our many programmes within the community.

“This development is not just about Bath Cricket Club, it is about cricket in Bath. Supporting and developing the wider cricket community across the whole of the city.”
