Bath Cricket Club submits application to improve facilities and secure future

Plans to upgrade the facilities at a popular sports club in the city have been submitted to Bath and North East Somerset Council.

Developers Gilltown Ltd, in agreement with Bath Cricket Club, have submitted proposals for a new indoor cricket school at the club’s home ground on North Parade. The scheme will include a state-of-the-art two lane cricket school and brand new gym providing better facilities for members and the wider community.

To facilitate the much-needed upgrades the development scheme will also include Purpose Built Student Housing for 142 beds, which will provide accommodation for second and third year students in the city.

The car park will also be retained but will be resurfaced and will have new lighting and enhanced CCTV installed.

Bath Cricket Club announced earlier this year that it needed to upgrade its indoor cricket school because its existing facilities no longer meet the minimum requirements set out by the English Cricket Board (ECB).

Matt Hankins, Chairman for Bath Cricket Club, said the redevelopment would signal a new and exciting era at the club.

He said “We believe the best way to safeguard the club’s future and be able to continue our work with local schools and community is to redevelop some of our site and include an element of private development.

“Maximising our assets in this way will enable us to further develop our work at the club and provide us with a much-needed ECB compliant indoor cricket school.

“For 160 years we have provided an environment that champions cricket and encourages young players to develop on and off the field. This is something we are committed to continuing.

“But this development is not just about Bath Cricket Club, it is about cricket in Bath. Supporting and developing the wider cricket community across the whole of the city.”
