Bath Wanderers 2nd XI vs YMCA

With Bridgewater conceding their match against the Wanderers 1XI, the 2XI match was moved down to North Parade, so with the Cricket World Cup running its course in the Clubhouse, YMCA won the toss, sending us in to bat. After the loss of our opener in the first over, Katy Hanscomb walked out to join her mum in the middle. They proceeded to score steadily, taking the Wanderers to 61-1: Katy Hanscomb striking fours and the pair taking some useful singles and twos. In the 12th over Kym Hanscomb was run out for 20, which brought Jess Smith in to bat. At this point the fireworks began with both Jess and Katy taking the bowling part, hitting boundaries comfortably. Jess was caught having scored a speedy 20, leaving Katy to continue the scoring, supported by Sophie Goodman. Wanderers ended their innings on 124-4, with Katy Hanscomb batting through to the end, in the process hitting 10 4s and scoring 66 runs: her second consecutive score over 50.

After tea, YMCA opened their innings needing 125 to win. Opener Nat Burrows (28) and Fiona Veale (16) provided the batting backbone for YMCA, however some tight fielding and excellent bowling from the Wanderers meant that their task was all uphill. Top of the bowling was Rosie Gelston, whose accuracy was outstanding, bowling 5 overs for 5 runs and taking 5 wickets (5-2-5-5). Katy Llewelyn took the important wicket of opener, Nat Burrows, stumped by keeper Katy Hanscomb: Katy Hanscomb also took a wicket in the 17th over. YMCA eventually reached 61-8 at the end of the 20th over.

An outstanding performance by the Wanderers, with the standout players being Rosie Gelston and Katy Hanscomb.
