Members of the public are being invited to learn more about Bath Cricket Club’s proposals to improve its North Parade facilities.

The club needs to upgrade its valuable indoor cricket school because it no longer meets the minimum requirements set out by the English Cricket Board (ECB).

The upgrade will enable Bath Cricket Club to continue its work with members as well as its important programmes of activity within the wider community. It will also help to safeguard the club’s future.

Over recent months the club has been exploring options for maximising its assets. These options have included considering an element of private development.

As well as a new indoor cricket school the club would retain the car park and the development scheme would also include an element of Purpose Built Student Housing.

A public information event on the proposals is to be held at Bath Cricket Club, North Parade on Wednesday 3 May between 1pm and 6pm. Members of the public will be able to come and discuss the scheme with the project team.

Matt Hankins, Chairman for Bath Cricket Club, said “For almost 160 years Bath Cricket Club has endeavoured to provide facilities and an environment that not only promotes the game itself, but enables players of all abilities to develop and enhance their playing skills on the field, whilst adding self-confidence and personal development off the field.

“To continue this ethos, we wish to expand the work we do within the local schools and community and outreach all areas that have not had the opportunity, for whatever reason, to engage in the programme we wish to offer.

“We also need to guarantee that the facilities we provide remain at the leading edge of our sport.

“To expand and develop our plans, we have been exploring a number of options for maximising the club’s assets and we have come to the decision that the only way to protect the work we do as a club is to pursue an element of private development on our city centre site.”
