Have you been paying attention?

A guide to how things stand

1st XI

OK - this one's straight-forward to get you going. Bath are in pole position and 3 wins will guarantee the title returns to North Parade (and probably, less than 3 wins will do but let's not find out!). You would assume, however, that the game at T St A next week would be the key game but don't under-estimate Keynsham this week.

2nd XI

If you judge the season simply by league position, this has been disappointing for a team that has won this division 14 times in the last 17 years. If you judge it by how well it develops players for the first team, then it has been a good year as so many players have not only made the step up at various points of the season but have also really contributed when they have done so. the truth probably lies somewhere in the middle....we can be thrilled at the way Max O'Leary, George Hankins, Pat Grieshaber and others are progressing but this is the first year since 1995 that we have not even been in the frame at the top.

3rd XI

The elusive (and catchily-titled) North Somerset Cricket League Saturday Conference Division One title still might prove...well, elusive in 2013. roey's team are hanging on in there but will probably need a favour from someone else if they are to catch Stratton - even though the pair are poised for a last day showdown which conjures memories of a last over commentary phoned through to North Parade of the last-ball thriller at Stratton in 2004 when James Pearce's men fell one run short of the NSCLSCD1 title. Whatever happens, 2013 represents a marked improvement on last year's showing.

4th XI

Another dramatic improvement and full credit to Thiaan for the brilliant way he has led the side. Saved from relegation  by a leaguere-organisation in 2012, the 4ths are runaway leaders in 2013. With only two amazingly narrow defeats to Avonside all season, the team are cruising into division 2 by the looks of things..... Dave Nelson has put the champagne in the Brownsword fridge ready for the 31st August!

Wanderers 1st XI

Say it very quietly....this could be the season when we finally translate teamwork into titles but - knowing us- we'll probably end up second. In a league where the published tables on play-cricket bear no resemblance to the actual league positions Bath - we think- are top with 2 games to go. Before you (and especially Moira) get to excited, those last two games are against our nearest challengers - away at Finchley who beat us pretty convincingly earlier in the year and then home to Hayes who will probably bring back 3 England players whilst Anya will not be allowed to play for us....no sour grapes there!

There is no current league table available at the moment - it will be added if we receive it soon!

Remaining games ; Bath v Finchley (A) and Hayes (H)
                             Finchley v Bath (H) and Bexley (A)
Hayes v Bexley (H) and Bath (A).........in short - its up to us!

Wanderers 2nd XI

If the transformation for the 4th XI has been great, the change for the W2 has been nothing short of miraculous in 2013 and is evidence of how developing young players is so important. True, we have stepped down a level but tomove from a stage where we were struggling to fulfil any fixtures to one where we can often manage 2 second teams at a weekend is a testament to the hard work of the girls over the winter and the support of a large group of parents who support their girls. Having won the league stage of the Somerset Women's League, the girls were (somewhat controversially) beaten in the play-off semi-final and now go forward to a 3rd/4th place decider at Minehead on Sunday before competing in two 8-a-side tournaments on 1st and 8th of September. It has been a fantastic season!

Sunday XI

Not really sure what to say about Sundays again. In a league where simply fullfilling your games is a challenge, we were fine until exam season and National KO progress got in the way. As a result of conceding games our points total has been reduced by the league administartor to zero but - before we get too depressed - there are two other sides on zero and one on minus 4 so all is not lost. Once again, it is time for a long hard look at Sunday cricket!
