Wanderers 2nd XI : A real 2013 success story (whatever happens from now)

With all the focus (quite rightly) on the 1st XI and their progress in the League and the National Club Championship it is easy to forget about other sides in the club. Even in terms of female cricket, a great deal of focus (relatively speaking) is paid to the "elite" end of the sport, whilst at Bath, obviously, the greatest focus is on the Wanderers 1st XI. However, there is a massive success story this year which could easily pass under the radar.... the Wanderers 2nd XI (and occasionally both the Wanderers 2nd XIs)!

For the past season or two, life for the Wanderers 2nds (from now on "W2") has been difficult. Playing in the South West (now "Premier") League against increasingly strong sides (which lest we and others forget, we helped to achieve improvements) a decent number of players were rarely able to be available in enough numbers to be (a) always able to get 11 onto the pitch and/or (b) be truely competitive when we did manage it. At the end of the 2012 season the W2 took a step back - rejoining the less-daunting Somerset League nd investing a lot of time and effort in developing the next wave of young players who would grace our senior teams (and beyond hopefully). the result.... at the end of the "league" portion of the season, the W2 are top of the league and head into the 4-team play-offs that will determine the Somerset champions in good health. Whatever happens from here, the season has been a real triumph!

W2 face Taunton Griffins on Sunday with the winners to face the winners of the WSM v Minehead game on 18th August. Whilst most eyes will be focused on the pursuit of the National KO crown at Ealing, another group of players will be aiming for glory at Gypsy Lane, Taunton.

Here's a list of some of the things we should be celebrating :

A plan to celebrate the achievements of the Female section of the club is being hatched for Saturday 7th September - please put that in your diary now and further details will follow.

In the meantime congratulations to all who have represented W2 this season and good luck in the final part of the season as follows :

4th August Playoff semi-final Taunton v Bath

18th August Play-off final /3rd and 4th place play-off

1st September WSM 8-a-side Tournament

8th September South West League 8-a-side Tournament
