Congratulations are due to Bath CC's Sophie Luff for her part in the MCC U19 victory in the Women's U19 ARCH Trophy in the United Arab Emirates. The competition which involved several county U19 teams and the MCC U19s (  which, in effect, was England U19 minus those squad members who were playing for their own counties) reached its conclusion yesterday as Sussex and the MCC played out a close-fought final.

The group stages had not really provided the MCC with any real test. The first game against Durham saw them rattle up 287-1 in their 40 overs with Luff not getting to the crease, before skittling their opponents for just 63. Devon provided slightly tougher opponents in game 2 restricting MCC to 196-4 (Luff 10), but they only managed 83 all out in response. the final group game against Essex followed a similar pattern. Sophie Luff scored a quickfire 42 not out from 37 balls in the MCC total of 248-1 before essex were bowled out for just 125, setting up a final against winners of the other group, Sussex, who had been in similarly impressive form.

The final was quite different from the other games as MCC lost early wickets and scrambled to 150-6, with Sophie Luff compiling a patient 19 in the middle of the innings. The Sussex reply was hampered from the very start by the regular loss of wickets and, despite a few partnerships which seemed to be getting them back in contention, their innings splattered to a halt at 132 all out at the end of the 38th over.

Congratulations to Sophie.
