The sun was shining, a large contingent of Bath supporters populated a grassy bank whilst players and parents alike were serenaded by a classical guitarist.....this was Wells CC, where the Bath Wanderers 2nd XI reacquainted themselves with life in the Somerset Womens League after a few years of absence.

A youthful Bath outfit batted first against a "mixed" age home side and, whilst opting to retire batters when they reached 30, the visitors scoring rattled along at an impressive rate. Daisy Vowles, Izzy Imlach, Ellie Holdaway, Sarah Rawle and Zoe O-G all hit the 30+mark, whilst Emma godman and Julia Head weighed in with useful 20s. The Bath total of 264 in their 35 overs was formidable to say the least!

The early Wells batters were not so fluent against some testing bowling. All the Bath bowlers gave the home team problems with - somewhat suprisingly - Gwyn West returning the best figures of 3-10. It was clear from very early in the innings that the Bath total was never under threat but the number of wides bowled was probably the only negative factor in the girls' display.

There will be tougher days that these .....starting with Minehead next at the Brownsword on 19th May.
