1st XI vs Potterne
Bath CC 1st XI v Potterne CC 1st XI
Bath 1st XI remained unbeaten this year after a tight home victory against Potterne CC 1st XI on Saturday at North Parade.
After winning the toss and choosing to bat first, Bath got off to a solid start before Harry Ellison (18) went in the 10th over. Fellow open, Ben Church (24) went soon after to leave the home side 44-2. Charlie Brain (42), Sam Young (20) and skipper, Tim Rouse (35) all played important knocks but unfortunately none of them went on to record a significant score, and as the middle/lower order struggled to build any partnerships, the home side were bowled out in the 49th over for an under par, 196.
Potterne’s reply was immediately hampered by the loss of Josh Kelly, caught behind off the bowling of Australian quick, Aidan Cahill. Although number three Lasitha Aberatne and opener Jake Goodwin rebuilt the innings with a partnership of 48, Cahill struck again by removing Goodwin (17). Important contributions from Omar Akram (29) and Basil Akram (37), batting with Aberatne took the away side past 150 for the loss of five wickets, but the return of Cahill to the attack proved crucial. First, he removed Adam Tucker (11), and then clean bowled Aberatne for 33 to leave Potterne 158-7, with 39 still needed for victory. But as things started to get very tight, James Arney (2-44) and Joe Heywood (3-28) picked up the last three wickets to win by 14 runs, as Potterne were All Out for 182 in 44 overs. Bath picked up 20 points to remain top by 10 points of Premier One.
