Bath 3’s vs Bishopston 2’s Match Report

Bath CC 3rd XI played hosts to Bishopston CC 2nd XI on Saturday at the Brownsword Ground.

After losing the toss and been put into bat on a very damp track, openers Bill Simmons and Varchas Shivakumar started well before Shivakumar (14) fell to leave the home side 24-1. Although number three, Ben Harper (4) went quickly, Simmons and Hope rebuilt with some positive batting putting on almost a century stand before Simmons went for 58. Unfortunately Hope (41) fell soon after to leave the home side with two new batters at the crease. Charlie Pritchard once again showed his worth in the middle order, smashing a brisk 44 not out off just 28 balls to take the home side up to a very respectable 202-7 from their 40 overs.

Knowle’s response got off to a fine start as openers, Chris Budd and James Taverner benefited from some inconsistent bowling, with Taverner in particular putting away any loose deliveries to the boundary to swiftly take the Knowle score towards 100 without loss. Although the introduction of spin briefly threatened, Knowle’s openers continued to bat positively as they cruised past Bath’s total in the 25th over to record a ten wicket victory, with Taverner (102*) completing an excellent unbeaten century off just 81 balls, and Budd finishing 51 not out.
