Bath CC 1st XI v Bedminster CC 1st XI
Bath CC 1st XI recorded a final over home win against Bedminster CC 1st XI on Saturday.
After winning the toss and electing to bat first, Bath’s openers got off to one of their finest starts of the season before Brad Porteous (38) was out to leave the home side 64-1. Fellow opener Jack Scrivens continued to bat positively with Ben Church to add a further 69 runs before Scrivens fell for an excellent 73 off just 82 balls. Bath’s middle order then combined well with Church (34) and Sam Young (53) standing out alongside some double figure scores to take the Bath innings up to 261-8 from their 50 overs.
Bedminster’s reply similarly started well passing fifty without loss, before Ollie Meadows (25) was caught behind off the bowling of Joe Heywood. Jamie Brooks then joined Joe Millard in the middle and these two batters added a further 33 runs before Hamish Bell (2-28) picked up both wickets with an inspired spell of bowling to leave Bedminster 108-3 in the 27th over. The match then remained very much in the balance as Bath continued to bowl well as Jack Henderson led the way for Bedminster with a number of middle order batters. But as Henderson and Paul Muchall took Bedminster closer to a win, Louis Brown then took three crucial wickets, first removing Muchall (26), Fahad Sabir (23), and Muhammad Tayyab Nasir (2) to leave the away side 248-7, needing 14 at a run-a-ball for victory. Bath’s young seamers, Spencer Gammon (2-51) and Will Hope (1-38) then bowled exceptionally well to firstly remove Henderson (73), bowled by Gammon in the penultimate over, and then Hope only gave away two runs and picked up a wicket in the final over to ensure that Bath won the match by 4 runs as Bedminster finished on 257-9. Bath’s 1st XI remain in third place in Premier One, now just six points behind Bedminster CC 1st XI, who are second.
