Bath CC 1st XI v Bridgwater CC 1st XI
Bath CC 1st XI beat top of the table Bridgwater CC 1st XI by three wickets at North Parade on Saturday.
After winning the toss and choosing to bat first Bridgwater lost James Regan (10) early, but although the away side began to recover, fellow opener, Harminder Singh (24) was the second wicket to fall to leave Bridgwater 57-2. Cameron Harding then anchored the innings as wickets fell around him as young seamer, Spencer Gammon (3-50) picked up three quick wickets to leave the away side 93-4. But Harding and Luke-Pearson Taylor (40) combined well to close in on 200, and although Joe Heywood (3-39) bowled well, Harding pressed on to post an undefeated 105 as Bridgwater ended up on 233-9 from their 50 overs.
Bath’s reply made the worst of starts as they slipped to 2-2 as both Jack Scrivens (0) and Kester Moseley (1) were swiftly removed by the Bridgwater seam attack. Brad Porteous and Sam Young put on an important 84 for the third wicket, when Porteous went for a patient 18. Like Bridgwater’s Harding, Young then realised that he had to be the batter that anchored the innings if Bath were going to stand a chance of victory. Batting effectively with skipper, Harry Ellison, Bath passed 150 just before Ellison (30) was bowled by Cameron Harding (2-55). Wickets continued to tumble and at 175-7, Josh Sutton strode to the crease to join Young with 59 still required for victory. Young posted his excellent hundred and with Sutton (17), the pair passed the Bridgwater score with only six balls to be bowled with Young undefeated on 136, a match winning innings. Bath remain in fourth position in Premier One following this win.
