Bath CC 1st XI v Bristol CC 1st XI
Bath CC 1st XI lost to Bristol CC 1st XI by four wickets at Bristol Cricket Club on Saturday.
After losing the toss and being asked to bat first, Bath lost Jack Scrivens (2) with only 11 on the board. They then slipped to 36-4 inside 11 overs before Brad Porteous and James Arney put on 63 for the fifth wicket before Porteous went for an important 54. Arney continued to anchor the innings batting effectively with Will Hope (29) before he was run out for an excellent 52. Bath’s lower order then chipped in with double figure scores to take the away sides total up to 213 when they were eventually bowled out with two balls of their 50 overs to be bowled.
Bristol’s reply started well with openers Tom Probert and Ash Lakhani putting on 77 for the first wicket, before Probert went for a run-a-ball 41. Bristol then lost Curtis Heaphy (7) to leave the home side 86-1. Bath sniffed an opportunity when off spinner Louis Brown removed Ash Lakhani (36) and skipper Louis Shaw (0) to leave Bristol 118-4 with still almost another 100 runs required for victory. But Jake Carstens then anchored the innings, scoring an undefeated 55 as he marshalled the lower order towards a four wicket victory, as Bristol crossed the line in the last over with just four balls to be bowled. The pick of Bath’s bowlers were James Arney (2-33) and Louis Brown (3-47). Bath remain fourth in Premier One.
