Bath CC 1st XI v Burbage & Easton Royal CC, Wilts 1st XI
Bath CC 1st XI travelled to Burbage in Wiltshire to kick off their Premier League campaign. After losing the toss and being asked to field, Bath’s opening attack capitalised on a helpful pitch by quickly picking up Burbidge’s skipper, David Cope caught behind off the bowling of Bath’s league debutant, Will Hope to leave the home side 4-1. Porteous then ran out fellow opener, Jonny Sadler for just 4, and then Hope ripped through the Burbidge top order with an excellent display of out swing bowling as they slipped to 32-4. The Bath bowlers continued to bowl tightly picking up regular wickets and even though Charlie Horton (27) threatened to aid a recovery, Hope (5-17) returned to trap him in front to help Bath bowl out the home side for just 97 in the 34th over.
On a wicket still with huge variance in bounce, Jack Scrivens (28) and Bradley Porteous (29) were very watchful to take the Bath score up to 58 without loss in the 12th over, when Scrivens was the first Bath batter to fall. Porteous quickly followed, and although Bath lost wickets in regular intervals, they crossed the line in the 26th over to win by four wickets and pick up a maximum 20 points.
