Bath CC 1st XI v Burbidge & Easton Royal CC 1st XI

Bath’s 1st XI picked up another win on Saturday by beating Burbidge & Easton Royal CC 1st XI by 25 runs at North Parade.

After rain reduced the match to 30 overs, Bath were asked to bat first and got off to a flying start passing 50 inside the first 5 overs before Brad Porteous was trapped in front for 27. Fellow opener Jack Scrivens (27) followed next over, and when number three, Ben Church (11) was out, Bath had slipped to 70-3. Sam Young (30) and skipper, Harry Ellison (46) both played important innings in the middle overs, and with contributions from the lower order, Bath reached a defendable 184-8 from their 30 overs.

Burbage’s reply got off to a similarly positive start to Bath’s as the openers put on 38 inside the first seven overs but then lost three wickets in quick succession to be left 58-3 as Bath’s seamers combined well together. This soon became 70-4 as Matthew Cadywould (2-25) picked up the important wicket of Peter Trego (9). Burbidge’s, Crofton Keyes (33) kept the scoreboard ticking as wickets fell around him, and when he was the eighth batter out, Burbidge still required 35 runs from just two overs. Will Hope (2-44) and Spencer Gammon (3-12) then combined well to mop up the tale to win the match for Bath by 25 runs.
