Bath CC 1st XI v Frocester CC 1st XI

Bath’s 1st XI got back to winning ways on Saturday by beating Frocester by 43 runs at North Parade.

After being asked to bat first, Bath soon lost Jack Scrivens (8) in the second over, but on a challenging wicket, the home sides top order all applied themselves to the situation well realising that a more modest total could be enough. Brad Porteous (38), Kester Moseley (18) and Ben Church (12) took the score up to 91-4 before skipper, Harry Ellison and Hamish Bell built an important partnership of 52 before Bell (15) was run out. Ellison soon passed fifty as he batted well with the lower order, and when he was bowled for a run-a-ball 86, the home side were on track to posting a score in excess of 200. With some sensible batting from James Arney (21*) Bath finished 213-7 from their 50 overs.

Frocester’s reply got off to a steady start as the openers passed 30 inside 10 overs, but then Max Dunne (14) and Luke Hansford (4) went in quick succession to leave the away side 43-2. Bath’s bowlers continued to stay on top picking up regular wickets, and with Frocester 96-6 in the 28th over, the home side looked in a very strong position, but then skipper Will Naish anchored the Frocester innings as wickets continued to fall around him. Naish was eventually the last batter out for a run-a-ball 56 as Frocester was bowled out for 170 still 43 runs adrift of victory. Pick of the Bath bowlers were Joe Heywood (3-33), Matthew Cadywould (2-33), Spencer Gammon (2-17) and Louis Brown (2-42). Bath 1st XI are now fourth in Premier One.
