Bath CC 1st XI v Taunton St Andrews CC 1st XI
Bath 1st XI continued their unbeaten run in Premier One after recoding a nail biting away win against Taunton St Andrews CC 1st XI on Saturday.
After the home side won the toss and elected to bat first, Australian pace bowler Aidan Cahill swiftly removed Cameron Harding (9) to leave Taunton St Andrews 16-1. This brought Somerset wicketkeeper batter, James Rew to the crease, and batting with Gabriel Gallmann-Findlay the home sides score progressed to 70 before Gallman-Findlay was trapped in front for 23, and Rew soon followed for 34, both as a result of an excellent spell from left arm seamer, Ben Chapman (2-17). Taunton continued to bat well through skipper Joshua Thomas (50) and Thomas Rew (39), but some tidy bowling from Matthew Cadywould (2-41) and the Bath spinners managed to control the run rate, as the home team brought their innings to a close on 226-9 from their 50 overs.
Bath’s response started very strongly with openers, Jack Scrivens and Harry Ellison quickly racing past 50 and then taking the away sides score past 100 before Ellison fell for an excellent 61 to leave Bath 123-1. Although Scrivens and Brain added a further 35, when Scrivens went for an impressive 70, and Brain (5) soon after, Bath found themselves 169-3 with two new batters at the crease. Wickets continued to fall as the introduction of James Rew to the bowling attack saw him bowl Aidan Cahill (5) and Louise Brown (0) in quick succession, but skipper Tim Rouse remained at the other end to keep the scoreboard ticking. When Matthew Cadywould was run out for 10, Bath were eight wickets down with eight runs still required to win. However, Rouse (25*) took his team across the line with just one ball left to bowl to ensure that Bath picked up 20 points to remain top of Premier One.
