Bath CC 2nd XI won by four wickets on Saturday to stay 37 points ahead of second place Downend in the Senior Division.
After Cleeve won the toss and elected to bat first, openers Mitchell Want and Sam Williams got off to a solid start before Want went for 22. Cam Elswood (5) soon followed but Williams then batted effectively with James Ball (27) and Karabo Motlhanka, before Williams went for an excellent 73. Motlhanka went on to pass fifty (53) as the lower order chipped in with runs to take Cleeve up to 223-9 from their 45 overs. The pick of the Bath bowlers were Harry Allen (3-46) and Hamish Bell (3-40).
Bath’s reply got off to a flying start as openers Ishwar Suresh and Mike Staves rapidly put on 101 for the first wicket before Suresh was dismissed for 40 off just 32 balls. Despite losing the in form Charlie Brain, run out for just six, Staves continued to bat well with Charlie Rustell (21) and Hamish Bell (24) before Staves went for an excellent 85 from just 78 balls. Bath’s lower order then took them passed Cleeve’s total with six overs to be bowled, to win by four wickets.
