Bath CC 2nd XI v Stapleton CC 1st XI

Bath’s 2nd XI demonstrated their huge potential on Saturday, as they picked up maximum points in a dominant away win against Stapleton’s 1st XI. After winning the toss and choosing to bat first, Bath slipped to 23-2 as they lost both openers in quick succession. But through Kester Moseley and skipper Charlie Rustell, the pair put on over 100 for the third wicket before Rustell went for a run-a-ball 54. This brought Hamish Bell to the crease to forge an even more impressive partnership to take the score up to 280-4 as Moseley went for an excellent 86. Bell continued his rapid tempo as he went for 115 off just 65 balls, which included 22 boundaries. Soon after, Bath completed their innings on 325-6 from their 45 overs.

Stapleton’s reply got off to the worst of starts, as they slipped to 7-3 as opening left arm seamer, Ben Chapman (2-28) removed both openers. Then left arm spinner, Josh Sutton got to work at the other end, bowling an accurate spell of 3-17 from his nine overs as the home side continued to struggle to 54-6. Despite some stubborn resistance from James Slade (43 not out), Bath’s bowlers continued to stay on top with the combination of the left arm pace of Sam Barnes (3-21) and off spin of Harry Allen (2-12) bowling Stapleton out for 117, still 208 runs adrift of the Bath total.
