Bath CC 2nd XI v Winterbourne CC 1st XI
Bath CC 2nd XI put in a commanding performance on Saturday to extend their lead at the top of the Senior Division to 37 points after their away win against Winterbourne CC 1st XI.
Asked to bat first, Bath made a positive start but lost Ishwar Suresh (11) with only 23 on the board. But then Charlie Brain joined Sam Price to build an 80 run partnership before Brain went for a run-a-ball 59. At 101-2, Bath’s skipper, Charlie Rustell joined Price and quickly dominated the bowling while adding another 69 runs to the score before Price went for 60. Rustell continued to bat well with the lower order to take the Bath score up to 224 when he became the fourth wicket to fall for a rapid 64. Solid contributions from Joe Weare (21) and Hamish Bell (28*) ensured that the away side finished on a challenging total of 271-7 from their 45 overs.
Winterbourne’s reply never really got going as they lost Nabeel Ahmed (4) early, and despite George Ford (37) trying to anchor the innings, wickets continued to tumble because of some excellent bowling from Bath’s spinners. Josh Sutton (2-32), Joe Weare (3-33) and Mo Hamza (2-11) tore through the home side eventually bowling them out for just 131 in the 34thover to win by 140 runs.
