Bath CC 2nd XI v Winterbourne CC 1st XI

Bath CC 2nd XI played hosts to Winterbourne 1st XI at North Parade on Saturday. After the away side won the toss and elected to bat, young left arm seamer, Sam Barnes swiftly trapped Chris Kay in front for a duck. But Winterbourne’s batters, George Ford (42) and skipper, Benjamin Parker (55) put on over 100 before both departed in quick succession to leave the score on 113-3 in the 31st over. Then an excellent spell from seamer, Spencer Gammon (3-37) left Winterbourne 161-6, but a quickfire 30 from Euan Rixon off just 16 balls took Winterbourne’s score up to 194-9 from their 45 overs.

Bath’s reply got off to a difficult start as Sam Price went first ball, but fellow-opener, Josh Norgrove (38) kept the scoreboard ticking as wickets fell around him. Hamish Bell then contributed a steady 31 as more wickets fell and when he was out in the 26th over, Bath still needed 59 for victory with nine wickets down. Ban Chapman (18*) and Sam Barnes (26) then put on an impressive 44 for the last wicket, but it just wasn’t quite enough as the home side were bowled out for 180 in the 42nd over.
