Bath CC 3rd XI v Clevedon CC 2nd XI

After being promoted to the Bristol & District Division 1 last year, Bath’s 3rd XI played hosts to Clevedon 2nd XI at the Brownsword Ground on Saturday. After losing the toss and being put into bat, the Bath openers progressed well on a sticky wicket to take the score up to 32 without loss when Mike Staves went for 22. All of the Bath batters then made good starts and passed 20, before Ben Harper (56) and Tim Scott (38) really accelerated the innings with some clean hitting to help Bath up to a very competitive 260-6 off their 40 overs.

Clevedon’s response stuttered as they lost opener Marc Jenkins (6) to leave the away side 28-1, but then fellow-opener, Harry Fear took control, hitting a run a ball 56 before leg spinner, Innes Pierce (3-25) picked up his wicket. Mo Hamza (2-49) then combined well with Pierce to pick up regular wickets, as Clevedon slipped behind the run rate. At 190-6, Bath looked on top but an excellent undefeated 65 from Daniel Van Grudgings took the away side closer to their total, but his innings was just not enough as Clevedon finished 26 runs short of victory at 235-7. Bath 3rd XI picked up 18 points for this victory.
