Bath CC 3rd XI v Keynsham CC 1st XI

Bath’s 3rd XI played in a thrilling away match against Keynsham 2nd XI, which went down to the last ball on Saturday.

After winning the toss and electing to bat first, Bath’s openers started well putting on 85 for the first wicket before Joe Weare went for 28. Fellow opener, Mike Staves then anchored the innings as wickets continued to fall, eventually being trapped in front for a fine 122. Bath’s Dan Hope (22*) and Charlie Pritchard (21*) then finished the innings strongly with some positive running and fine hitting to take the away side up to a very competitive 238-5 in 40 overs.

Keynsham’s reply started well, before Tim Scott trapped Oliver Bell (16) in front to leave the home side 41-1. Tom Kennedy (34) soon followed, but Ben Whittington (50) then kept the chase on track as wickets steadily fell around him. When Whittington was bowled by Yash Gaur the match hung in the balance, as the home side was left 156-6 still needing 83 for victory. As some positive batting down the order, particularly from skipper, Mark Branton kept up with the run rate Tim Scott then returned to remove Branton (33 off 21 balls) and Jack Stone (14), and when Joe Weare removed Thomas Reid (4), Keynsham still required 20 runs for victory with only one wicket in hand. With some sensible batting, the match eventually went down to the last over, and then with one ball to be bowled, and with Keynsham requiring two runs for victory, Carmeron Emmott (21*) and Ishara Randika (3*) scampered the two runs required for victory. The pick of the Bath bowlers was Tim Scott, who picked up 4-37. Following this result, Bath has slipped to second place in Bristol & District Division 1.
