Bath CC 3rd XI v Midsomer Norton CC 1st XI
Bath’s 3rd XI continued their unbeaten run this season with a commanding away win over Midsomer Norton’s 2nd XI.
After Bath were asked to bat first, the away sides openers made a positive start before Mike Staves (16) was trapped in front to leave Bath 62-1 in the 13th over. Although Hope was run out without scoring, Bath’s Luke Stringer and Ishwar Suresh took the score up to 117 before Suresh went for a rapid 44. Stringer soon followed for a steady 40, but this then brought Tim Scott and Toby Eayres together to compile a 90 run partnership before Scott went for a run-a-ball 50. Eayres then took control, smashing 84 not out off just 51 balls to take Bath up to a very commanding 273-6 from their 40 overs.
Midsomer Norton’s reply got off to a flying start as the openers passed 50 inside the first five overs, but as soon as James Miles removed Martin Cox (27) and Toby Eayres removed fellow opener, John Carroll (29), Norton’s innings fell away as Eayres ripped through the top order capping off a fine all round performance with four quick wickets to leave the home side 68-5. Norton never recovered from Eayres’ devastating spell (5-33) and with the help of Tim Scott (2-9), Bath bowled out the home side in the 27thover for just 144. This win means that Bath’s 3rd XI remains top of B&D Division One, with a 12 point lead over Lodway CC 1st XI.
