Bath CC 3rd XI v Whitchurch CC 1st XI
Bath’s 3rd XI continued their winning ways against Whitchurch 1st XI on Saturday. After the home side won the toss and elected to bat, Bath’s league debutant, James Miles picked up two early wickets to leave Whitchurch 20-2. Matthew Williams (45) and William Beedell (26) then rebuilt the innings before Nathan Fox bowled Williams to leave Whitchurch 84-3. After Beedell soon followed Williams back to the Pavillion, the tight bowling of Innes Pierce (2-35) and Chandana Kariyapperumage (2-19) turned the screw on run scoring whilst also picking up regular wickets to leave the home side 165-8 from their 40 overs.
Chasing on an unpredictable and wearing surface was never going to be easy for Bath, and this proved the case as four Bath batters were back in the Pavillion with only 40 on the board. Ben Jeffries (5-51) bowled particularly well and kept the pressure on, but once again, the away sides middle order got to work, with Ishwar Suresh smashing 41 from just 23 balls, and then Tim Scott (30) and Innes Pierce (42*) both played a watchful but positive innings to help take Bath to a four wicket victory with 12 overs still to be bowled. As a result of this win, Bath’s 2nd XI are now second in the league to Lodway CC 1stXI.
