Bath CC 3rd XI v Whitchurch CC 1st XI
Bath’s 3rd XI lost in the last over to Whitchurch CC 1st XI at home on Saturday.
After winning the toss and choosing to bat first, Bath lost young openers, Luke Stringer (1) and Sam Simmons (7) early, but then Ben Harper and Tim Scott took the score up to 66-3 as Harper went for a positive 32. Scott was then joined by Toby Eayres, and this pair added 122 for the fourth wicket as Eayres (52) went for a run-a-ball half century. Scott then batted well with the lower order to record a fine undefeated century (117*) as he finished Bath’s innings on 232-5 in their 40 overs.
Whitchurch’s reply got off to a fine start as openers, Nick Beedell and Josh Milton raced to 82 inside the first 13 overs, but the introduction of skipper, Will Ireland (3-35) to the Bath attack saw Beedell (22) and Milton (42) depart in just two overs to leave the away side 94-2. Most of Whitchurch’s middle order made contributions to the run chase and although Innes Pierce picked up three wickets (3-48), Matthew Williams’ 48 from just 38 balls left Mark Shields (11*) to hit the winning runs with just three balls to go to record a three wicket victory. Despite this loss, Bath’s 3rdXI remain top of Division One with a 9 point lead.
