Bath CC 4th XI v Thornbury CC 3rd XI
Bath CC 4th XI lost against Thornbury CC 3rd XI on Saturday at the Brownsword Ground.
After being asked to bat first, Thornbury had a stuttering start as seamers Chloe Micklethwaite (1-43) and Luke Welsh (3-38) grabbed three early wickets to leave the aways side 21-3. Thornbury needed to rebuild and they did this admirably, through Arshid Mohammed (33) and Ali Drury, and when Mohammed went, Drury batted well with the middle and lower order and recorded an excellent century, taking his score up to 132 not out off just 104 balls. This innings propelled Brislington’s total up to a challenging 238-7 from their 40 overs.
Bath’s reply through young openers Alex Moss and Sam Simmons was a powerful one, with the two batters racing to 70 before Simmons went for 21. Although Bath soon lost skipper, Thiaan Aspeling (9), Moss continued his positive attitude to eventually be the next batter out for an excellent 65 from 55 balls. At 126-3, Bath were still in with a chance, and a brief partnership between Mathan Balasubramaniyan (20) and Luke Welsh continued to keep the home side on track. Welsh continued to bat well with the lower order, but as wickets continued to fall at the other end, he remained not out for an excellent run a ball 52, as Bath’s last batter was run out in the 37th over with 28 runs still required to win. Bath still picked up 9 points from this loss.
