Brislington A U13 v Bath Daggers
Daggers 103-5 (20 overs) Brislington A 104-2 (18 overs)
Daggers batted first on a warm overcast evening on a green wicket up and down the slope at Brislington. Runs initially came slowly against the home side’s accurate bowling and efficient fielding. Rose T, Gen D and Connie O all went cheaply trying to force the pace. Evie Dixon dug in for a gritty 26, and as wickets fell around her India M added some impetus to the innings with a splendid 30 not out, Mia W (5 not out) providing good support as Daggers reached 103 from their 20 overs.
Brislington’s opening pair also struggled to find runs early in their innings, but crucially held out against an agressive bowling attack by Rose T, Gen D, India M and Connie O. At 39-0 after 10 overs the match was in the balance. The increasingly confident home batsmen then increased the pressure on Daggers’ less experienced bowlers, the Bath girls making some crucial lapses in the field. Despite wickets from Rosa (1-10) and Rose T (1-20) Brislington got to their target with two overs to spare with 8 wickets remaining.
A disappointing loss for the girls, but a good lesson in how small errors can make a crucial difference in tight games.
