Girls Sabres v Lansdown
The girls lost the toss and were put into bat, Josefa and Eliza opened up the batting. They started off steadily, facing some very straight bowling. Eliza was the first to depart and in came Beth. Josefa and Beth kept the steady pace, rotating the strike when they could. Then unfortunately Josefa was next to go. In came Alice in a very short cameo, run out after facing just one ball.
Rosa came to the crease and her and Beth upped the tempo. They started pushing the field a bit more and rotating the strike more. This helped recover our modest run rate a little. The partnership was broken later into the innings, with Rosa top scoring on 13. Tilly then came in with great positivity, she was then joined by Ava when another wicket fell helping to move the scoreboard along. The team managed to boost the runs in the latter half of the game and ended on 77-5.
Catherine and Alice opened the bowling. The girls set the tone early on and managed an early run out within the first 4 overs. That was one of four that the girls managed to get, with one being a direct hit from Jess at square leg. The bowling was tight and the girls really put pressure on Lansdown. Eliza bowled well and finished on 1-6. And Beth in her 2 overs had a maiden and a wicket maiden, a critical two overs in the last ten overs.
Sadly there were a few too many over throws which gave the boys a little help during our fielding and they managed to get over the line in the 17th over with 3 wickets remaining.
A valiant effort from the girls, a really good attempt at restricting the runs and getting wickets at key moments. Lots to take from today and improve on in training. Also a big shout out to hannah who kept amazingly at such short notice, an excellent effort.
Onto the next!
