Lansdown v Samurai

The Samarais finally got their season underway in ernest last night after three false starts.

Bowling first, they were under pressure early as Lansdown's openers made a blistering start to the innings with several imposing boundaries. Captain Sam G was able to stem the flow from the 6th over onwards with the introduction of spin, coupled with some more defensive field placings.

It was indeed the spinners who took all 5 wkts to fall, as Twm 1-10, Sam G 2-6 and Ollie W 2-16 (on debut) picked up wickets. This restricted Lansdown to 109-5 from their 20 overs, a good comeback from the boys as at one stage they were 55-0 from 9 overs.

In reply, John B (21) looked in good form against some lively seam bowling and Wilf E (11) joined him to steady the ship after an early wicket. We fell behind the required rate in the face of some disciplined bowling and this pressure was translated into the loss of several quick dismissals to leave us reeling at 46-5 from 12. Ollie M (15*) and Zach M (18) combined effectively, injecting some much needed momentum into proceedings, which saw us back in the match. But sadly there was too much left to be done and after another clatter of wickets saw us close on 94-7, 15 runs shy.

On reflection the opening 6 overs of their innings cost us and credit must go to the Lansdown openers, one of whom struck 46 at easily over a run a ball. I was impressed with the way we adapted to the early onslaught, didn't panic and kept doing the basics, conceding just 9 extras in our innings.

Fortunatly we don't have long to turn things round, as we face Hampset in the cup this evening.
