Midsomer Norton U13s v Bath Daggers

Bath Daggers 173 – 3 (20overs), Midsomer Norton 52 – 7 (20 overs)

A career best 79 not out by Genevieve D and an excellent team performance in the field earnt the Bath girls a resounding victory against Midsomer Norton’s boys.

Choosing to bat first on a slow green wicket, Rose Turner (10) and India Master got Daggers off to a rapid start.  Their sharp running and awareness of any extras on offer took the score to 42-0 after only 4 overs, when Rose T’s dismissal brought Genevieve D to the crease. She produced an innings of disciplined aggression and despite losing the wickets of India M (15) and Connie Osborn (17) kept the runs flowing to the end.  After passing her second 50 of the season she hit six consecutive boundaries, alongside an increasingly confident Alex Ball (11 not out) to set the hosts a challenging target of 174.

Midsomer Norton’s reply was restricted from the start by Daggers’  bowling attack – Freda C, Gen D, Rose T and India M delivering eight overs for only 16 runs, and Connie O icing the cake with two wicket maidens, leaving the hosts at 21-2 after 10 overs.  The second half of the innings was effectively strangled by Daggers’ increasingly effective younger bowlers and consistently good fielding, Alex B (2-3) and Clara G (1-7) taking important wickets as the hosts struggled to 52-7 from their 20 overs.  Great to see Poppy H-S and Matilda J back from injury and looking sharp.

The Midsomer Norton boys played well throughout but were unable to cope with an in form and increasingly confident Daggers team.  #GirlPower indeed!
