U11 Spears v Hampset

Bath Spears took on Hampset at Bloomfield Rise on Monday evening.

Fielding first, the Spears showed great team spirit in supporting each other for whole innings. All 7 bowlers performed well, but my pick was Eliza who bowled with pace and control as we restricted Hampset to 224. A highlight of our fielding innings was the catching and we saw great grabs from Alice, Flo and Tilley. Special mentions must go to Sophia who deputised behind the stumps, looking a natural and Aoife who captained the side very well.

In reply, Bath coped well with some fast Hampset bowling and hung in there in pursuit of the target. The last pair of Alice and Niamh found themselves needing 6 from 2 overs following a great shot from Niamh over square leg, but Hampset pegged us back with a wicket at a vital time to nudge ahead. They also took a wicket from the very last ball as we found ourselves 12 runs short, although the game was a lot closer than that.

Isobel also made her debut and showed she can be a real asset for the team with bat and ball. Overall, it was a good display and with a bit more luck the girls could have easily got the win. Well done Girls !
