U11 Spears v Temple Cloud
BATH SPEARS FIRST VICTORY OF THE SEASON!!
245-8 vs 224-7
In the ninth fixture of the season, the Bath Spears went up against a well-matched Temple Cloud side. Under the captaincy of Jess P, the girls won the toss and elected to bowl first. Straight bowling saw the Spears take 7 wickets, including a double-wicket maiden from Josefa Y and a wicket maiden from Isobel P. Alongside the Spears tight fielding and accompanied run-outs and catches the girls reduced Temple Cloud to 224-7. A special mention to Sophia P who has taken on the role of wicketkeeper for the Spears this season, and has held her own behind the stumps extremely well.
With the opposition’s total in-sight the girls knew that wickets lost would make all the difference in the result of the game. Aoife M-P and Flo P started the game off strong with their rotation of strike, particularly taking advantage of the oppositions misfields and overthrows. Next up to the crease was Eliza G and Gaia S who did not lose a wicket, and did well to block out the fast and straight bowling. Last to the crease was captain Jess P and Isobel P, at this point the Spears were ahead by only 1 run, so the girls understood that they had to protect their wickets at all costs. Patient batting and safe calling saw the last pair post an additional 20 runs, ensuring the Spears clinched their first win of the season.
The Spears have shown immense improvements throughout the season, highlighted in their victory against Temple Cloud. As I am leaving Bath this week I am thrilled to have our first win in hand, but even more thrilled to see these young girls develop into well-rounded and respectful cricketers- they are all a credit to the club!
I also want to say a huge thank you to all the parents and guardians who have helped and supported us throughout the season.
In their final fixture of the season the Bath Spears travel away to Keynsham.
