U13 Axes v Corsham

Corsham U13 - 86/5 v Bath Axes U13 - 92/2

On another damp night the Axes made the journey east along the A4 to Corsham’s picturesque ground on Station Road.

With more rain in the air the skipper felt obliged to put Corsham in with the plan of trying to ‘skittle’ them! Due to some very determined batting this plan didn’t quite work, however, the bowling throughout the 20 overs was superb. Our very own metronome, Jamie G bowling his 4 overs for a meagre 7 runs, proving to others that line and length is key in wet conditions. He was ably backed up with our arsenal of bowling; George W (2/3) which including a juggling caught and bowled, Alex M (1/5), Alex VA (0/4) and Sam S (1/14). The skipper also gave opportunities to Tom S and Luke W, both of whom grasping the chance with both hands. Luke S was also involved in an outstanding run out, hitting a single stump from 20 metres.

In reply, and with the weather closing in the team knew that we needed to get off to a quick start…..which we did. The former St. Stephens duo of Max H (13) and Luke S (25) put on 40 in 2.5 overs, both lads hitting the ball cleanly. Max H hitting the period properties over the roads with a 6 and Luke Stringer hitting a huge straight 6 nearly reaching Chippenham! The former had an impressive strike rate of 227! It was left to the enigmatic paring of Jacob F (26*) and Fred S (20*) to knock the runs off, which they did at the end of the 8thover.

Thanks to Corsham for hosting and to the enthusiastic Mr Bradbury for scoring, it really is appreciated.
