U13 Axes v Winsley

Winsley 99/5 lost to Axes 100/8 by 2 wickets

On a rare balmy night at the Brownsword Ground the Axes edged a thriller by 2 wickets against a very talented Winsley side. Having been put in to the field the Axes bowled some decent areas with the skipper Max H getting little luck. He was ably supported by his bowlers with George W (2/4) being the pick of them. The fielding throughout could only be described as ‘sloppy’, an adjective the whole team agreed with at the debrief. However, they were two moments of individual brilliance through run outs, Max H and Alex M with the honours.

Having been set 100 to win, the Axes lost wickets with regularity meaning the skipper (23) had to dig deep with the enthusiastic Alex VA (13). Both of whom ran brilliantly between the wickets until Winsley’s outstanding bowler took care of them both. With 20 still needed it was left to MOM George W (18*) and the ice cold Tom S (4*) to see the team home with 1 ball to spare.
