U13 Daggers v Keynsham A
Daggers 82-9 (All out} (17.5 overs) Keynsham A 83-5 (16.5 overs)
Reduced to ten players by Covid isolations, Daggers were put in to bat by the hosts, whose opening pair Baker and Lewis produced a devastating opening spell which reduced the visitors to 20 for 5 after 6 overs. Lewis took four wickets for 13 runs, and Baker ran out India M with a direct hit from midwicket. Of Daggers’ top order, only Evie D survived to the first bowling change, when she found good support from Matilda J (14) and Mia (8) as the girls rallied. Keynsham proved a well organised and efficient fielding side but the girls pushed on, taking whatever extras were available. Wickets continued to fall steadily and Evie was last out for a vital 24, with the total on an under par but potentially defendable 82.
In reply the Keynsham side started strongly against some lively Daggers’ bowling, reaching 44 after 6 overs before Gen D (2-17) made the first breakthough. Evie D (2-20) and India M (1-9) also claimed scalps as for a while the boys were put under pressure. A few errors in the field allowed the hard hitting Keynsham batters to progress the score steadily though, and their target was reached at the end of the 17th over.
A good fightback by the Daggers after a disastrous start, but unfortunately not enough to avoid their third league defeat of the season to an impressive Keynsham XI.
