U15 Samurai v Lansdown (County cup qualifier)

The u15 Samarais lost to Lansdown at Combe Park for a second time this season, this time in the National Cup.

Bowling first on a wet, used and unprepared wicket, the boys made a couple of important early breakthroughs, but failed to capitalise and were guilty of bowling too short. Lansdown's batsman took full advantage and did well to race to 60-2 at the halfway mark. Their intent and ability to put away the bad ball allowed them to reach 119-6, with Charlie H 2-18 and Sam G 2-12 the pick of the bowlers.

The response was steady and we were in the game right up to the penultimate over, with all of the top 4 makings starts. Unfortunately we lost wickets at inopportune moments - just when it looked like we were getting ahead of the game. Toby E looked assured for 28 and Max H on debut made a composed 32 to show his class, but the run rate climbed steadily and in a mirror image of the league game, our middle-lower order understandly found it tough to go at 8+ runs per over for the final 8 overs.

Needing 32 from 3 was always going to be a tough ask and despite valiant efforts from Luke S on debut, it was 15 runs out of reach.

Our attention now turns back to the league where we meet Bath Claymores on Wednesday.
