U15 Samurai v Winsley

The Samurais beat Winsley by 10 wkts at Winsley Cricket Ground in the BDYCL on Monday evening.

Bowling first, Bath struggled to make a breakthrough initially as the Winsley openers played sensibly to reach 47-0 from 10 overs.

The weather was always likely to have a say in proceedings, with an omminous looking band of rain arriving from the South West; and indeed the rain did begin to fall lightly after 6 overs.

Bath turned to spin in an attempt to fly through their overs and it proved a great choice as the spinners picked up all 5 wickets to fall, limiting Winsley to 93-5. Off spinner Twm I enjoyed a great spell of 3-17 from 4 overs and was supported by leg spinner Sam G (1-11 from 4 ov) and SLA Ollie W (1-8 from 4 ov)

With the rain beginning to fall with increasing tempo, Bath knew their only chance of victory would be to come out of the traps hard and that is exactly what happened. John B (39*) and Toby E (36*) both batted superbly to reach the target in just 9 overs as conditions worsened to leave the ground and square at Winsley wetter than an otter's pocket.

A fine victory for the boys in one of the soggiest games of cricket I have ever been involved with. Well done lads 👏
