A New Era Rolls in at Bath Cricket Club
Bath Cricket Club has proudly taken delivery of a brand-new Auto-Roller, marking a significant milestone in the club’s long-standing commitment to pitch excellence.
This new addition replaces our faithful old roller that served the club well. The black-and-white photo below from 1995 shows our former groundsman John Smith at work on the very same machine – a fixture at the club for generations. That same roller weathered one of the most challenging cricketing years in modern history: the 2000 season, the wettest recorded since 1766.
In contrast, 2025 has brought the opposite extreme. With one of the driest summer's in recorded history, our current groundsman Alex Woodward now steers the club forward using the latest Auto-Roller technology to keep our wickets in top condition.
The new roller not only reflects our dedication to maintaining outstanding playing surfaces but also honours the traditions that have shaped our club. From soggy square to sun-baked turf, we roll forward—proud of our past and excited for the seasons to come.
