Second XI become Somerset Intermediate t20 Champions 🏆
Bath 2nd XI recorded an impressive 73 run victory in the final of the Somerset Intermediate Knockout Cup at the County Ground in Taunton on Sunday.
After being put into bat first, Bath lost Ishwar Suresh (6) early before Joe Weare and Charlie Brain put on 41 runs for the second wicket when Weare went for a run-a-ball 22. Brain (63*) then batted effectively throughout the rest of the innings with both Charlie Rustell (30) and Josh Norgrove (21) to take Bath up to a competitive 154-4 from their 20 overs.
Long Sutton’s reply never really got going as they swiftly slipped to 44-4 due to some very fine bowling from Ben Chapman (1-20), Josh Sutton (1-4), and Mo Hamza (2-29). But then the introduction of Toby Eayres to the attack ensured that Long Sutton wouldn’t get close to Bath’s score as he picked up five wickets to finish with match figures of 5-19, as Long Sutton were bowled out for just 81 in the 16th over. Bath not only picked up the silverware, but Charlie Brain was also awarded the man of the match for his excellent 63 not out.
