Specialist cricket coaching sessions to become regular fixture at Bath CC’s new state of the art Cricket Centre....

Bath Cricket Club has teamed up with ECB Level 4 cricket coach, and specialist spin coach, Mark O’Leary to run its second spin clinic of the Autumn, providing two specialist spin coaching sessions on Saturday 16th December for those young spin bowlers aged 11-17 who are either part of their county pathway, or on the fringes of selection.

The two-hour sessions were limited to eight players (aged 11-13 or 14-17) and were focused on developing the techniques to spin the ball prestigiously whilst delivering a consistent line and length. Following the success of these spin clinics, Bath will be arranging more specialist batting, bowling, and fielding sessions over the coming year.

Mark O’Leary has been coaching for over 30 years, and prior to becoming a self-employed coach, he has held Head Coach positions at The Hundred franchise, Welsh Fire and at Western Storm, one of the six elite women’s domestic cricket teams. Mark has also previously worked closely with Terry Jenner, the late Shane Warne’s highly respected coach, on an ECB driven initiative to develop more wrist spinners in the UK.

Mark Watts, Lead Community Cricket Coach at Bath Cricket Club, said:

“We were delighted to welcome Mark to Bath CC once again after he ran a hugely successful spin clinic in October. With a three-lane indoor cricket centre we’re ideally placed to run these specialist coaching sessions, which are open to both Bath players, and talented young cricketers from across the South West and beyond. I was fortunate enough to work alongside Mark and learnt so much about the techniques to develop young spinners. Mark has such a vast experience from junior pathways too County Academies, and all the way up to the professional game, so he’s been fantastic for all the young players involved.”

Mark O’Leary added:

“I’ve been travelling around the country coaching all parts of the game as well as running these specialist spin clinics, which have been proving very popular. Bath’s Cricket Centre is a great venue for these sessions as we purposely keep the numbers small so the young players have some dedicated one-two-one coaching as well as some group activity. I’m looking forward to working together with the club on planning some more sessions for next year.”
