Bath CC 1st XI v Taunton St Andrews CC 1st XI

The well covered ground at North Parade allowed Bath 1st XI to complete their match against Taunton St Andrews on Saturday. After winning the toss and asking Taunton St Andrews to bat, the away team immediately struggled in difficult batting conditions, losing opener Toby Williams-Thomas for 5 off the bowling of James Arney. Paul Muchall then removed Joshua Thomas for 12 to leave Taunton St Andrews 42-2, which soon became 42-3 when Arney removed skipper, James Regan for 22. Arney was now really into his work, and he bowled Charles Thomas with the very next ball to make it 42-4 and two more wickets fell to leave Taunton St Andrew reeling at 61-6, with Arney picking up five of the first six wickets. There was then a fight back through number four, George Thomas (60*) who found some support from the lower order to take Taunton’s score up to 148 all out in the 32nd over. James Arney was the pick of the Bath bowlers with 5-61.

Despite some short rain delays, Bath’s reply started positively with Jack Scrivens posting a run-a-ball half century, whilst wickets fell around him. When Scrivens was trapped in front for 51, Bath had slipped to 82-5, and there was still significant work to be done.

Through initially Harry Ellison (26), and then Paul Muchall (27*) and James Arney (14*), Bath continued positively towards their target to pass Taunton’s total in the 30th over with six wickets down. Bath’s four wicket win, ensures that they remain second in Premier One to Potterne CC.
