Walking cricket never stops in Bath
As the cricket season has drawn to an end, there is a growing number of cricketers in Bath that play the game all year around since Bath Cricket Club launched Walking Cricket as a new community project in September 2024.
Walking Cricket is aimed at supporting older generations through physical activity and improved social wellbeing, and after starting with just one participant, it has grown steadily over the past two years to attract up to twenty at weekly sessions.
Louise Cripps, who joined Bath’s very first Walking Cricket session, said:
"I came along to the very first Walking Cricket session having never played cricket before. I wasn't sure what to expect, but everyone was so welcoming. Two years on, I still come every Thursday and now my partner joins me as well. It's become a really important part of our week, not just for the cricket but for the friendships we've made along the way."
Mark Watts, Community & Junior Manager at Bath Cricket Club added:
"It's been fantastic to see Walking Cricket grow from a single participant to the thriving group we have today. Every week we welcome a mix of familiar and new faces, which is a real testament to what the programme offers. Seeing everyone enjoying themselves on the pitch and then staying behind for a chat over tea and coffee afterwards is incredibly rewarding. We're proud of what has been achieved so far and excited to see it continue to attract new members across Bath and the surrounding villages."
Bath Cricket Club is one of three Walking Cricket hubs serving the Bath and Bristol area. Walking Cricket sessions take place every Thursday from 10:30am to 12:00pm at Bath Cricket Club outside or in the indoor centre. Participants are invited into the clubhouse afterwards for tea, coffee and biscuits, which has become an important social part of the programme.
