Bath CC 1st XI v Bedminster CC 1st XI
Bath CC 1st XI’s 30 point lead at the top of Premier One was cut to 17, after they lost their first match of the season to Bedminster CC 1st XI at North Parade.
After winning the toss and electing to bat first, Bath lost opener, Jack Scrivens (1) in the second over, and then Charlie Brain (8) soon followed to leave Bath 26-2. This brought Sam Young to the crease who batted effectively with young opener, Ben Church to take the Bath total up to 75 before Church went for a useful 32. Young and skipper, Tim Rouse then built a crucial stand to take the home side up to 141-4, as Young (58) went for a powerful half century. Rouse (35) soon followed, but useful contributions from the middle and lower order got Bath up to a defendable 209, as they were bowled out in the 48th over.
Bedminster’s reply was steady as they passed 50 for no wicket in the 16th over, but then young pace bowler, Joe Haywood struck, removing Max Tryfonos for 33, to leave the Bedminster 51-1. The away side’s innings then benefited from two important contributions from opener,Ollie Meadows (31) and Dylan Church (22), but as these batters were removed, and off spinner Louis Brown (4-38) got into his work, Bedminster slipped from 96-3 to 126-5, still needing 84 runs for victory in 16 overs. The match was very much in the balance, but Joseph Phillips (39) batted effectively with ex Bath player coach, Paul Muchall. Muchall (42*) then took Bedminster over the line with Joe Millard (13*) to win by 3 wickets with just one over to be bowled.
