Bath CC 1st XI v Bedminster CC 1st XI
Bath’s 1st XI continued their winning run on Saturday, when they registered a home win against Bedminster CC 1st XI.
After winning the toss and asking Bedminster to bat first, the away side got off to a steady start as the openers put on 58 for the first wicket before Ollie Meadows (22) was bowled by Matthew Cadywould (2-39). Soon after Cadywould struck again by having fellow opener, Edward Webb caught behind for 38. Bath’s bowling attack then operated in partnership, bowling tightly and picking up regular wickets and although James Matravers (25), Matty Brewer (25), Jamie Brooks (29) and Fahad Sabir (28) all got into the twenties, none of them went on to produce an innings changing score, and in the end, Bedminster finished on 233-9 from their 50 overs. In addition to Cadywould, the pick of the Bath bowlers were James Arney (2-41), George Axtell (2-46) and Spencer Gammon (2-52).
Bath’s reply got off to an excellent start as openers, Ben Wells and Brad Porteous put on 105 inside 18 overs before Porteous was trapped in front for 32. Ben Church (5) soon followed, but then the in form, Sam Young joined Wells, and these two batters put on 98 for the third wicket, which included Wells bringing up his century, before Young went for 60 off 70 balls with Bath on 210 with just 24 required for victory. With Jack Scrivens (3*), Wells knocked off most of the remaining runs to finish on 122 not out as he took his side to a seven-wicket victory. After this run of four wins in a row, Bath are now 28 points clear of the Prem One drop zone.
