Bath CC 1st XI v Bristol CC 1st XI
Bath 1st XI remained unbeaten this year after a close away victory against Bristol CC 1st XI on Saturday.
Choosing to bat first, Bath got off to a great start through openers Jack Scrivens (59) and Harry Ellison (55), who put on a century opening stand before Scrivens was out to the spin of Rishi Panchal. The introduction of Panchal really changed the game as the wicket was taking excessive spin Bath’s batters struggled and were eventually bowled out for 182 in the 47th over. Panchal finished with 5-36.
Bath struck early in Bristol’s response, removing both openers with only 5 runs on the board, and a mixture of excellent seam and spin bowling left the home side 47-7 with a huge amount of work to do. But Panchal (40*) capped off a great all round performance staying with an aggressive William Rudge (61) to take the home side very close. Crucially Joe Heywood bowled Rudge and Matthew Cadywould bowled an incredibly tight spell of 4-10 and picked up the final two wickets to win the match for Bath by 15 runs, as the home side were bowled out for 167. Bath picked up another 20 points to remain top of Premier One alongside Bridgwater CC 1st XI.
