Bath CC 1st XI v Frocester CC 1st XI

Bath’s 1st XI played hosts to Frocester CC 1st XI at North Parade on Saturday.

After winning the toss and electing to bat first, Frocester lost opener, Max Dunne (2) in the second over, and number three Zieg Roos (16) soon followed, trapped in front by Spencer Gammon (2-29). Skipper, Will Naish then anchored the innings as a succession of batters made it to double figures, but didn’t capitalise on their starts. When Naish went for a patient 48, the away side had slipped to 116-5 in the 33rd over. Uzi Qureshi then held the innings together, scoring 37 as the lower order collapsed around him. Qureshi was eventually the last man out, as Frocester were bowled out in the penultimate over for 173. In addition to Spencer Gammon (2-29), James Arney (3-29) and Louis Brown (3-36) were the pick of the Bath bowlers.

Bath’s reply had the worst of starts as Ben Wells (9), Jack Scrivens (1) and Harry Dixon (9) or departed with only 28 on the board. Skipper, Harry Ellison (1) soon followed to leave Bath 32-4 with a lot of work to do. Sam Young then batted sensibly with the lower order, but as wickets continued to tumble around him, he became the 9th wicket to fall for a steady 40. Although a further 22 was added for the 10th wicket, Bath were eventually bowled out for 128 to lose by 45 runs with almost ten overs still to be bowled. Bath 1st XI remain second from bottom in Prem One.
