Bath CC 4th XI v Dyrham & Hinton CC 1st XI

Bath CC 4th XI lost a high scoring away match against Dyrham & Hinton CC’s 1st XI on Saturday.

After winning the toss and electing to bowl first, Bath picked up an early breakthrough as young allrounder, Alby Jackman (2-39) had Dom Ferguson (1) caught behind. Fellow opener, Martin Millard and skipper, George Lewis then added 129 for the second wicket before Millard went for a classy 65. Lewis continued the momentum with Ben Short (39) as he brought up his first senior century before being bowled by Jackman for 101. Some big hitting at the end by Richard Greenwood (23) then took Dyrham & Hinton up to an imposing 281-5 from their 40 overs.

Bath knew that they needed to get off to a good start and through Thiaan Aspeling and David Pippett they did just that, putting on a 100 partnership in quick time before Aspeling went for an excellent 59. Jack Pippett then joined his father at the crease, and these two added a further 63 before Jack Pippett (14) was out to an excellent diving catch. Bath then continued to lose regular wickets as David Pippett passed his century, but they continued to keep up with the run rate, and with three overs to go Pippett stood on 153 with 30 required from the last three overs and the match was very much in the balance. Unfortunately, Pippett went three balls later still on 153 from 101 balls, and the match soon finished as Bath were all out for 252 as the home side won by 29 runs.
