The Bath 1st XI’s winning run ended on Saturday when they lost by 186 runs to Dumbleton CC’s 1st XI at North Parade.

After winning the toss and electing to field, the Dumbleton openers made a steady start against the Bath seam attack until the introduction of Sam Young trapped Dan Holland (19) in front to leave the away side 42-1. This soon became 45-2 when Josh Sutton trapped number three, Arthur Sweeting in front for one. The match was nicely balanced, but then Lewis Rollinson and Ewan Gegg put on an impressive 201 run partnership, both bringing up their centuries in the process with Rollinson hitting 108 and Gegg 120. With the assistance of skipper Myles Holland (34*) the away side got up to a commanding 305-4 from their 50 overs.

Bath’s reply started steadily but when Hamish Bell (7) went in the 5th over to leave the home side 22-1, there was only a brief partnership between Alex Haleem (19) and Ben Church (30) before wickets began to tumble and Bath found themselves 76-4. Unfortunately, things got worse as a spell from Finn Brabham (6-23) ripped the heart out of Bath’s middle and lower order, and in the 36th over, the home side were bowled out for 119. With Potterne chasing down over 400 against Bridgwater to win, Bath are now just off the drop zone with a ten-point gap from Bristol CC, who are second from bottom. Bath may need to win next week to ensure they avoid relegation.
