Bath CC 4th XI v Golden Hill CC 4th XI

Bath CC 4th XI also travelled to Bristol to face Golden Hill’s 4th XI. After winning the toss and choosing to bat first, the Bath openers made a steady start before David Pippett (19) went with the score on 29. Thiaan Aspeling (4) soon followed and at 39-2 the match looked very much in the balance. But, then one of the finest batting partnerships by two young players in the club really got going. Sam Simmons and Will Blackmore put on 135 runs for the third wicket, before Simmons went for hard hitting 67. Fourteen year old, Blackmore then went on to post his first century in senior cricket, finishing undefeated on 106 not out when Bath’s innings concluded on 241-3 from their 40 overs.

Golden Hill’s reply stuttered as both openers were back in the pavilion with only 11 runs on the board. Although Zain Morrison batted through the innings to finish 88 not out and he partnered effectively with Zac Patterson (43), Golden Hill continued to lose regular wickets as a result of Bath’s tight bowling and fielding, which included four run outs and some excellent catching. In the end, the home side finished their innings 204-9 from their 40 overs, still 37 runs adrift of Bath’s target. With this third win in a row, Bath’s 4th XI remain second in the table to Bristol Eagles 1st XI by just one point.
