Bath CC 3rd XI v Keynsham CC 2nd XI

Bath’s 3rd XI recorded a convincing 125 run home win over Keynsham 2nd XI at the Brownsword Ground on Saturday.

After winning the toss and electing to bat first, Bath lost Sam Simmons (0), Will Poulton (6) and Freddie Stappard (7) early to slip to 40-3, but then opener, Jack Goodwin and John Bean combined to put on one of the partnerships of the season, passing 171 before Goodwin was bowled for an excellent run-a-ball 121. Bean continued to play positively with skipper, Tim Scott (24*), and eventually finished on 90 not out off just 73 balls as the home side reached 274-4 from their 40 overs.

Although Keynsham lost Oliver Bell (5) in the second over, the away side passed 50 without any further wickets being lost but then slipped from 52-2 to 117-5 as a result of some effective swing and seam bowling from Bath. Things really shifted though when seamer, Robert Patch returned for a second spell as he picked up five quick wickets to finish with match figures of 6-31, as Keynsham were bowled out for just 149 in the 31st over. Bath are now third in the league, just three points behind Lansdown’s 2nd XI, and just four points off top spot.
